The Yalta Conference was a meeting held between Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchhill, and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Poland was the main debating point. Stalin explained that Poland had either attacked Russia or it had been used as a corridor through which other hostile countries invaded her and only a strong Pro-Communist government in Poland would be able to guarantee the security of the Soviet Union. Also, the decision to form a United Nations Organization was confirmed. This was the only issue that all three leaders enthusiastically agreed on. At this point in time Germany was close to defeat and British and US troops were advancing from the west and the Red Army from the east. At the conference it was agreed to divide Germany up amongst the allies. Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin's main objective was to capture Berlin, Germany, the capital. But Frankilin D. Roosevelt did not agree and the decision of General Dwight D. Eisenhower to head south-east to Dresden ensured that Soviet forces would be the first to reach Berlin.
