Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov was born in Strelkovka, Kaluga Province near Moscow, Russia. . In 1915 Zhukov was drafted into the Russian army where he served in a dragoon regiment as a private. During WWI Zhukov received an order of the St George Cross twice. He was promoted to the rank of officer for his bravery in battle. After the Russian Revolution in 1917 Zhukov joined the Bolshevik Party. he fought in the Russian Civil War . Zhukov became so popular in Russia that Stalin thought of him as a threat and demoted Zhukov to command the Odessa military region. Zhukov supported a revolt against the Stalinist Communist party
